SEM & SEO
Let’s talk about search engines. SEM is search engine marketing, using your ads to gain placement ranking. Combined with light SEO, you get solid results.
Google is the heart of all searches, made by people all over the world. As an older person at Green Guru, I can remember the very beginning of Google, I was already working on websites and digital marketing in 1999 and we used Alta Vista, Find-What, AOL and others to “look up” things on the internet.
The name google was so incredibly sticky I immediately started using it. The crisp interface made the results look better too. We didn’t know that it would become the heart of the internet so quickly. Knowing how searches work, their origin, and what happens behind the scenes has proven invaluable to our clients.
Today Google has 40,000 searches every second. People make 3.7 billion searches daily and well over a trillion searches annually. That is a lot, and is why you need advertising, a solid web presence and SEO.
Green Guru can help your business stand out to your potential targets among all of the mind-blowing data and metrics. Advertising today is almost dependent on the internet and google. We mix it with more avenues for ad discovery for you.
Google is the biggest search engine in 2022, with 90% of all of all web searches going through it, but it’s not the only one. You have to understand Google to use all of the Google tools. They are the biggest, but here are many more SE’s.
Who are the other search engines? Will your website do well on any of them? Should you use other SE’s? Green guru media believes that as long as they will never be mutually exclusive, why not get your pages on all of them? We help you do that.
What are they, and who uses them?
Many of the others were created for privacy of searches, or specialties. That way, if you search something once, you won’t have ads for it following you around for a month after. How does the internet know what you thought about buying? Green guru will dive into that topic next week, so stay tuned!
For today, let’s take a look at some of the other major search engines (SE’s) and explore their specialties. Green Guru Media will submit the sites we create to many engines, and take the extra steps to ensure you are crawled for the proper search terms. You don’t have to do anything extra on your end, we do it all for you.

Bing
Bing is the second largest engine so far. They are by Microsoft. They recently changed their name to Microsoft Bing.
Bing comes installed in your new PC’s with the microsoft browsers. That makes it the typical search engine used by many corporations who use windows. That is a lot of users, potential customers, working all day, during prime time.
We will be sure your site is known by Bing, and absolutely manage any ad campaigns you choose to do through them. You certainly don’t want to skip that opportunity for new visitors and potential customers.
Ecosia
Ecosia is another search engine, also powered by Bing. if you use this one, you will play a little part in helping the environment. They plant trees for every search you do there. Every 45 (approximately) things you search for there adds up search credits and they will plant a tree!
DuckDuckGo
If you don’t like your searches being tracked and followed, this search engine is a well known, favored choice. It doesn’t allow any search tracking, user data collected and feels private. This engine has browser extensions for added features and compatibility with how you search.
Yahoo
Yahoo is still around! it has been moved around a lot through the years, but is still it’s own, kind of. Yahoo is not a search engine, it is a web portal. It is a one stop shop, with lots of features that go beyond search. Their inside search capabilities are powered by Bing, but it has its own unique take on delivery.
Even as a “powered by Bing” portal, the results you get will be sorted in the Yahoo way, displayed with its own directory preferences and even supply different visuals. It is always interesting where your business falls in the different portal systems.
Baidu
If your business is international, you can not ignore the Baidu powerhouse search engine. Its home language is displayed as Mandarin by default, but it has an English tab if English is your native language. You can access global markets easily through Baidu. They have an advertising option through paid ads they call snippets. This can be great for the world wide audiences, but you will be monitored and censored, which varies with regions and topics.
Others
There are many, many others. Their specialties are diverse. There are technical engines, paid business engines, statistical engines, high security engines and many that charge a fee to search. Green Guru can take a deep dive into the exact search requirements you should take advantage of. Let’s define the objectives that you need to fill your exact goals.
Being #1 on Google ranking sounds great, but the cost may be only reachable to a conglomerate. Most companies spend $30,000 per month on google ads alone. Our customers don’t tend to have that budget available, yet. Green Guru works hard to build up the small, local businesses, so you can have a shot in the digital world. Let’s get a search strategy that best fits your company, budget, and goals. Green Guru Media will package together an action plan that will define your target audience & reach them with the most logical map, growing at your own pace.
Let’s use every advertising dollar to your advantage, and not waste it on top cog results, unless you are really selling cogs. Let’s refine your area to where your customers and viewers are, not on another coast or country. Let’s also expand your area beyond the “friends” you already have.
Be smart, try our services. We are so much more than a fill-in, do it yourself template. Our web packages include us.
